Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA)

Please review the HIPAA material below. When you have finished, click the HIPAA Test link. A printer friendly version of this material is linked at the bottom of the page.

PHI enforces all HIPAA rules and regulations

The HIPPA Privacy Rule covers certain health information in any form (computer files, verbal, written, etc.)

Be conscious of your conversations in the home. It is a HIPAA violation and agency policy violation to discuss client care in front of other clients and/or families.

When calling the administrative office, make sure you are conveying the appropriate information to the appropriate department, and not discussing clinical information when not necessary. Think about WHO needs to know and WHAT information they need to know.
